Creative team Sophie Yeoman and Keighley Allen (aka 'SophKie') graduated last year and since December have worked at RAPP, Profero, Weapon7 and are currently working at 23Red.

A few weeks ago the team were contacted by Feel Good drinks to recreate their YCN Awards 'fruit not sugar' animation in their spare time so they're currently very busy indeed!

Terri graduated from the programme in 2009 and, until last month, worked as Head of Fashion Magazines at WENN providing the world's media with up-to-the-minute entertainment and fashion photos.

She now works at IPC Creative (the division of IPC Media that's responsible for creating and delivering bespoke communication solutions for commercial partners) where she works in the advertorial section as picture researcher.

Creative team Jan Pruijser and Rachel Clough graduated last year and for the past few months they've been working at digital and integrated agency The Grand Union.

During their time there they've been working on Coca Cola, Waitrose Flower Delivery, Freeview, Max Factor and Aussie Shampoo.

Clare graduated from the course in 2009 and completed work placements at two magazines. She then assisted a freelance stylist for over a year working on shoots for advertising campaigns, TV and magazines.

Clare is now Acting Deputy Fashion Editor at Take a Break magazine.

Getting into creative teams is hard work. A big decision.

Over the next 6 months our 2nd Years have just that decision to make.

But the problem is not so much 'Who is the right person for me', it is more 'What do I actually want'?

The trick is to avoid letting the problem (getting into a team) define the solution.

So, each year, we run a wonderful event called 'Creative Speed Dating' where our 2nd Years do a little bit of soul searching, working out what they really want from a their budding relationship before it gets started and, hopefully, avoid an early divorce.

Armed with a few neat questions and a slightly clearer view on their 'perfect partner' the dates begin!

In Creative Speed Dating 40 people each have 2 minutes with one another to 'test their compatibility'.

Do they share ambitions? Could they spend all day every day working together? Can they be totally honest with each other?

The idea is not to commit there and then but to get their heads clearer and ask better questions.

Let's call it creative flirting.

And whilst we are still awaiting the first CA wedding, this type of event definitely helps to make better quality teams.

Last Thursday saw the Level 2 University of Lincoln Creative Advertising students take part in the legendary Superbrief Day.

Superbrief Day involves the students being set a brief and working on it for just one hour; the solutions being critiqued and then immediately having another brief following the same timescale. This pattern carries on all day with only a short break for lunch.

By the end of the day the students (and staff!) feel a little frazzled but they also get used to coming up with ideas very quickly as well as learning how to focus on the most important aspects of a brief.

Although incredibly demanding, this year's Level 2 Superbrief Day was a resounding success with the students, who could clearly see the benefits of working in such a focused and rapid way.

Callie Smith is a copywriter who graduated from the Creative Advertising programme in 2008 and has spent the last two and a half years at Tribal Resourcing. In that time Callie has won nine (!!) industry awards. Impressive, eh?

After graduating in 2010 Charlotte and, then creative partner Vicky Daley, had a placement at Muirhoward where they had work produced for Standard Life Investments, Sophis and Deloitte.

Charlotte is now full time at
The Big Kick where she is working on Stella Artois, Rowntrees Randoms, Walkers and Nestlé.

Creative team Charley Gray and James Hobbs graduated from the Creative Advertising course 2010 and spent 5 months at Team Saatchi on placement after leaving Lincoln. They worked on Continental Airlines, Closer and Olay amongst other things. During that time they had plenty of stuff go live including their first TV ad, digital escalator panels and an event at Paddington Station.

They left left Team Saatchi and joined Rapier and have been there for 4 months now. To date they’ve worked on Travelodge, Yell and Symantec.

As we've mentioned in previous posts on the blog, they won The Shelf 2010 and Cream 2010 along the way.

Yesterday Charley and James' transvision panels went live for Yell.com.

These ground breaking ads will appear on JCDecaux screens at 16 major railway stations across the UK. The screens will syndicate content from Yell with the destination of the next departing train so that people on the platforms will see different reviews and local business information relevant to their journey and the time of day.

For example, if the next departing train is bound for Southend-on-Sea at lunchtime, the copy on screen might include something like, “Heading to Southend-on-Sea? Try Southchurch Park CafĂ©,” and then provide contact details for the local business as well as a real customer review, “A great place for coffee and cake, or tea and biscuits,” before ending with the call to action, “Visit Yell.com for reviews wherever you’re heading.”

Creative team Neil Ritson and Stefan van Zoggel (aka RvZ) graduated from Lincoln's Creative Advertising programme in 2010 and have completed placements at some VERY impressive advertising agencies.

To date, they've worked at Dye Holloway Murray; Publicis; Karmarama; Mother and Lean Mean Fighting Machine. Saatchi & Saatchi and JWT are also keen to get them in to their agencies in the very near future.

As we've written on previous posts, Roger Horberry is a successful independent copywriter who is highly regarded in the design, branding and advertising industries. His books – most recently 'Brilliant Copywriting' and 'Sounds Good on Paper' – are well respected and thoroughly enjoyable texts on the skills and techniques required to create effective, engaging writing.

Back in January, Roger ran a very successful 'tone of voice' workshop for the second years and last week the third year copywriters had an innovative workshop from him all about writing 'sticky lines'.

This is what third year copywriter Kayleigh Brookes wrote about the day:-

"A sticky line is a tag line, strap line or slogan that sticks in your head. Roger explained three things that were necessary to make a line 'sticky': 1) It has to be memorable; 2) It has to inspire action; and 3) It has to be appealing.

Roger gave us tasks to help develop techniques of writing a ‘sticky line': rhetoric (alliteration), puns and rhyme. These techniques were great – they grew our passion for copy, we had a lot of fun and even enjoyed being a little cheesy! We learned a lot and got some great feedback and encouragement.

Roger left us with some final advice of what to do and what not to do, namely:-Keep it simple; don’t write something your competitor can use; you don’t have to be original just say it in a way it hasn’t been said before and, most importantly, never be boring."

We look forward to welcoming Roger back to Lincoln very soon. A true friend of the course.
